Questions
Yes. We don't force you into bland "diet food." We modify your traditional favorites, adjusting salt and swapping ingredients, to meet your health needs while preserving the flavors you love. And we show you exactly why each recipe works: the nutrition breakdown, the adaptations we made, and the clinical guidelines behind every choice.
No. MedMenu helps you find recipes that align with published dietary guidelines (ADA, AHA, KDIGO, etc.). But we don't just hand you recipes. We explain the science. Every dish shows you the specific nutrients that matter for your conditions, how the recipe fits within those guidelines, and links to the peer-reviewed research. Always share your meal plans with your healthcare provider.
We resolve conflicts automatically. For example, if diabetes guidelines focus on carbs while heart disease guidelines emphasize fat types, we optimize for both and show you exactly how. Every recipe displays which guideline applies to each nutrient, so you understand the reasoning, not just the recommendation.
Every ingredient is matched to the USDA FoodData Central database, the same source used by researchers and registered dietitians. We estimate nutrition per serving by mapping each ingredient to standardized reference weights and nutrient profiles from USDA. These are best estimates based on generally accepted culinary descriptions (e.g., "two medium tomatoes," "one cup diced onion"). Actual nutritional content may vary depending on specific ingredients, their actual weights, and preparation methods. The condition-specific targets you see (sodium, potassium, net carbs, etc.) come from published clinical guidelines by organizations like the ADA, AHA, and KDIGO.
Yes. Paste any recipe URL, YouTube cooking video, or ingredient list into our Recipe Checker. You'll get a full per-serving nutrition breakdown matched to USDA data, condition-specific flags showing how the recipe measures up against published dietary guidelines, suggested ingredient swaps to improve the recipe for your conditions, and recommended portion sizes to help bring the meal within daily guidelines. Free users get 5 recipe checks per month, no sign-up required.
We built MedMenu because we couldn't find what we needed when managing chronic conditions in our own family. Most apps focus on fitness, weight loss, or a single condition. MedMenu is built for personalized nutrition across multiple chronic conditions. It answers the questions we kept asking: What can I actually eat? How much sodium is in this recipe? Can I still make my favorite dishes? Can I plan a full week of meals that work for my conditions? Every feature exists because we needed it ourselves.
